Helping New London and Norwich students with a history of community service pursue a business degree

The Philip A. Turner Fund

 Philip Turner

Philip Turner was a long-time member and past president of the New London Rotary Club, as well as an active volunteer for the Norwich Rose Arts Festival, New London Landmarks, Mitchell College, the Eastern Connecticut Board of Realtors and many other organizations. After graduating the Norwich Free Academy in 1969, he worked at McCue Mortgage for more than 30 years.

During his lifetime, together with his wife, Sherry, Phil had created a memorial scholarship fund in honor of his parents, Viola and Henry Turner.

When Phil passed away, Sherry and their two sons, Keith and Mark — together with friends, relatives and colleagues —created the Philip A. Turner Fund to pay tribute to his dedication to community service.

The fund provides scholarships in perpetuity to students from New London and Norwich who have demonstrated a strong commitment to community service and are pursuing a college degree in business.

In establishing the fund, Sherry said, “There are so many organizations that have benefited from Phil’s generosity of time – it is an amazing legacy. We think that Phil would also like to be remembered by his commitment to family. Strong families make for strong communities and Phil is evidence of that. He helped raise two fine young men who are following in their father’s footsteps by giving back to their respective communities. He would be proud that his charitable work will continue on through his children.”
