9.22.17: Celebration of Women Breakfast

The Southeast and Norwich Area Women & Girls Funds cordially invite you to a Celebration of Women featuring a conversation with Elsa Núñez, President of Eastern Connecticut State University

“Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut grants to nonprofits and other organizations in our region provide life-sustaining services that are making a fundamental difference in the daily lives of women, girls, and their families in eastern Connecticut. When I hear the personal stories of the women and children being served — and often saved — by services ranging from legal representation to emergency housing, nutritional programs, and health care — I know that the Foundation is impacting our communities at the most important level. There is no more vital work than meeting the basic human needs of people struggling to overcome life’s challenges.”

In August 2017, Dr. Elsa M. Núñez began her 12th year as the president of Eastern Connecticut State University, following more than 20 years as a senior administrator at such institutions as City University of New York (CUNY) and the University of Maine System.

Under Dr. Núñez’s leadership, Eastern is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the 26th top public university in the North; has been recognized eight times by the Chronicle of Higher Education as a “Great College to Work For”; has been named a U.S. Green College by the Princeton Review seven years in a row; and is recognized as one of the Top Workplaces in Connecticut by the Hartford Courant.

The author of two books “Pursuing Diversity” (1992) and “Hanging Out and Hanging On: From the Projects to the Campus” (2014), Dr. Núñez also has published numerous articles on language acquisition, diversity and other education issues.

Dr. Núñez received her B.A. from Montclair State College, her M.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University and her Ed.D. from Rutgers University.
