Avalonia Land Conservancy creates endowment to support its mission in perpetuity

Avalonia Land Conservancy, Inc., a land trust dedicated to conservation via acquisition of natural areas, has created a $50,000 fund to benefit its open space and habitat preservation efforts.

The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut is pleased to partner with the Avalonia Land Conservancy, Inc., a land trust dedicated to conservation via acquisition of natural areas, has created a $50,000 fund to support its efforts to conserve local natural resources for the common benefit now and for future generations. The Community Foundation’s stewardship goals are to help grown the funds and make mission-supporting annual distributions to Avalonia, while reducing the workload of the organization.

Avalonia Land Conservancy, Inc., currently holds more than 3,400 acres of land, preserved in perpetuity as natural open space in preserves located in Griswold, Groton, Ledyard, North Stonington, Preston and Stonington. In addition to acquiring and protecting lands, they also educate and communicate to the public the value of these irreplaceable resources.

The Avalonia Land Conservancy Fund, established in February 2016, joins more than 30 other agency endowments managed by the Community Foundation, which has more than 460 individual funds overall. In addition to investment management, the Community Foundation also will provide accounting and record keeping, periodic reporting, and distributions of the funds. Additionally, the Foundation is available to provide guidance and training regarding the cultivation and solicitation of endowment gifts.
