The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut and the Southeastern Connecticut Cultural Coalition announce a regional call to action and training opportunity for nonprofit leaders and board members to improve Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The changing demographics of our country are creating a workforce more diverse than ever. With that diversity comes the need for nonprofits to be more inclusive and more representative of the communities and customers they serve. Diverse governing boards and staff can help institutions better align themselves with the communities they serve, stimulate dialogue and innovation, improve strategic thinking and decision-making, and expand networks of dedicated talent.
This Diversity, Equity and Inclusion workshop will help a group of nonprofit board chairs and executives gain and develop knowledge, skills, and practical tools, and resources that can be used to help advance their organizations’ DEI goals. Our intention is to answer critical questions that nonprofit leaders face including:
More and more, nonprofits are working to better reflect the communities they serve, and engage with those they want to serve, through representation on their board, staff and volunteers. This event will serve as a first step towards making the region's nonprofits more diverse and inclusive.
Jamal Jimerson is the Founder/Executive Director of Minority Inclusion Project Inc. He has worked for over 15 years in public service across Connecticut. Driven by a desire to mobilize youth, families, and communities of color, Jamal was mentored into leadership for community-based nonprofit organizations across Connecticut, including Bridgeport, New Haven, and Hartford.
Jamal has given presentations on nonprofit diversity, inclusion, equity, and leadership for regional and national workshops. He is a member of the Connecticut Association for Diversity and Equity Professionals, an Alumnus of AmeriCorps, and an Alumnus of Leadership Greater Hartford’s Quest program. Jamal was the recipient of the 2017 One Hundred Men of Color award and the 2017 Hartford Business Journal's 40 Under Forty award for his leadership and achievements in the nonprofit sector.
This workshop is free to the nonprofit organizations in Eastern Connecticut. Registration, including a short survey, is required. Light breakfast will be included.
