In 1999, 200 women – and some caring men – became the Founding Members of the Southeast Women & Girls Fund. Together with other generous donors, we put the Fund on the map, achieving an initial $1,000,000 endowment within five years.
Since then, others have stepped up with leadership gifts, 25 women created named funds in their names or to honor special women in their lives, and another seven women and men have included the Women & Girls Fund in their estate plans.
After two decades of growing the Fund, managing it well and encouraging the engagement of others, we have more than tripled it to today's $3.7 million level.
These dollars have been returned to our community, time and time again, advancing the wellness, independence, safety and equity of local women and girls. To date, $1.4 million has been awarded for 283 programs.
We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of our partners, Brown Brothers Harriman.
