Our Application Process

Once you’ve gathered all the information you need to complete the application process, it’s time to select, fill out and submit your Scholarship Application.

As noted on our Before You Apply page, the application process takes time, preparation and attention to detail. Please be aware:

  • You are solely responsible for gathering and submitting all of the information necessary to complete the application process. This includes following up with school officials for transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Any supporting documents (e.g., transcripts) that can’t be uploaded during the online application process should be mailed to: The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, Attn: Scholarship Committee, 68 Federal Street, New London, CT 06320.
  • We recommend that you print out and save a hard copy of your Scholarship Application for your personal records. Please do not send a printed copy to us.

A Note on Applying Online

The first time you click the "Apply Online" button during this process, you will be asked to create a free account with SmarterSelect.com, our online scholarship application system.

  • In SmarterSelect you can save your application at any point and return to complete it during subsequent online sessions.
  • If you established an account with SmarterSelect.com for an earlier Scholarship Application with us, the “Apply Online” button will take you to a log-in screen.

High School Senior:
Application Deadline April 7, 2017 @ 5pm

Use this application if you:

  • are a graduating high school senior who lives in one of the 42 communities we serve in Eastern Connecticut or in Westerly, Rhode Island;
  • will be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university for the 2017-2018 school year; and
  • are in good academic standing.

Important Reminders

  • You only need to submit one application to apply for any of the more than 100 scholarships offered by our donors.
  • The 42 communities we serve include: Ashford, Bozrah, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Chaplin, Colchester, Columbia, Coventry, Eastford, East Lyme, Franklin, Griswold, Groton, Hampton, Killingly, Lebanon, Ledyard, Lisbon, Lyme, Mansfield, Montville, New London, North Stonington, Norwich, Old Lyme, Plainfield, Pomfret, Preston, Putnam, Salem, Scotland, Sprague, Stafford, Sterling, Stonington, Thompson, Union, Voluntown, Waterford, Willington, Windham and Woodstock.

Current College Student or Non-Traditional Student:
Application Deadline March 24, 2017 @ 5pm

Use this application if you:

  • are a current college student from one of the 42 communities we serve in Eastern Connecticut, or if you’re from Westerly, Rhode Island and attending Mitchell College; or
  • are a non-traditional student; that is, you have been out of high school for more than a year, you are likely over age 24, and/or you are financially independent;
  • will be enrolled at an accredited college or university for the 2017-2018 school year; and
  • are in good academic standing.

Use this application if you:

  • Are a lineal descendant of a former student of the Bulkeley School in New London, CT and are pursuing post-secondary studies at an accredited educational institution.
  • The application deadline is 5:00 pm on Monday, April 3, 2017.

Application Deadline April 3, 2017 @ 5pm

Use this application if you:

  • are a member, or a descendant of a member, of Niantic's Black Point Beach Club Association;
  • are a graduating high school senior; and
  • will be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university for the 2017-2018 school year.

Important Reminders

  • Previous winners and family members of the Cahill Black Point Education Fund Scholarship Committee are not eligible.
  • The application deadline is 5:00 pm on Monday, April 3, 2017.

Medical Student - Caryn Nesbitt, MD, Memorial Scholarship:
Application Deadline March 24, 2017 @ 5pm

Use this application if you:

  • are a female student;
  • are a resident of East Lyme, Groton, Ledyard, Lyme, Montville, New London, North Stonington, Old Lyme, Salem, Stonington or Waterford;
  • have completed your undergraduate studies;
  • will be enrolled full-time at an accredited medical school for the 2017-2018 school year; and
  • have financial need.
